JV scoops $2.8bn Sydney Harbour tunnel contract

A joint venture led by CPB Contractors and John Holland has landed a AU$2.81bn (£1.68bn) contract to build a new metro deep under Sydney Harbour in Australia.
The New South Wales government awarded the contract, which involves using five TBMs to build twin 15.5km tunnels and carrying out associated civil works on Stage 2 of the Sydney Metro project. CPB Contractors and John Holland have 45% stakes in the JV, with Ghella holding the remaining 10%.
The tendering process had begun in April last year (link opens in new tab).
CPB Contractors managing director Román Garrido said: “Our team is focused on ensuring that all objectives for this significant major project are achieved, including sustainable design and construction methodologies, opportunities for local workers and businesses, and a socially inclusive procurement strategy.”
